An ethnic group (or ethnicity) is a group of people whose members identify with each other, through a common heritage, consisting of a common language, a common culture (often including a shared religion) and a tradition of common ancestry (corresponding to a history of endogamy). Members of an ethnic group are conscious of belonging to an ethnic group; moreover ethnic identity is further marked by the recognition from others of a group's distinctiveness. Q. I dont get it. I guess people from Isreal call there ethnicity jewish, but there middle eastern. Im really confused when a guy converts to judism he identifies himself as jewish when asked his ethnicity. But the worst is when a guy who is half jewish is christian. To damn confusing. Well I descend from Middle Easterns who followed the Jewish religion...So what that makes me I don't know. But a common Orthodox teaching though is that a child with a Jewish (religion) mother is Jewish even if the child follows another religion. That's where the ethnicity thing comes in.
