Genetically, we're from the Indian subcontinent, but there is no 'promised land,' or anything like that. By and large the culture is simply nomadic. It isn't so much that they like the lifestyle, so much as settling down in one place makes it harder to keep marime law about not marrying out, and what is and is not allowed in the home, and such. settling also goes against the nature. Most often compare it to water. If Rom stay in one place, they believe the spirit and the energy goes stagnant and causes disease and problems. Because they have had their own culture and identity, kept to themselves and have been free wheeling travelers and over the centuries they got stereotyped and were perceived as thieves, liars, swindlers and social misfits unable or willing to integrate into mainstream society. Sometimes there are those that do a good job in helping to live up to the stereotype hence they are all painted with the same brush. All civilized people still have their prejudices I'm afraid. He would eat from trash cans, sleep on friend's couches, and planned to buy himself a piece fo land and I'm not sure if he was going to try and be self sufficient or just use part time or what but he did buy that land, I think.they're okay.
