Religion is the belief in and worship of a god or gods, or in general a set of beliefs explaining the existence of and giving meaning to the universe, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs. Aspects of religion include narrative, symbolism, beliefs, and practices that are supposed to give meaning to the practitioner's experiences of life. Whether the meaning centers on a deity or deities, or an ultimate truth, religion is commonly identified by the practitioner's prayer, ritual, meditation, music and art, among other things, and is often interwoven with society and politics. It may focus on specific supernatural, metaphysical, and moral claims about reality (the cosmos and human nature) which may yield a set of religious laws and ethics and a particular lifestyle. Religion also encompasses ancestral or cultural traditions, writings, history, and mythology, as well as personal faith and religious experience. The development of religion has taken many forms in various cultures, with continental differences. The term "religion" refers both to the personal practices related to communal faith and to group rituals and communication stemming from shared conviction. "Religion" is sometimes used interchangeably with "faith" or "belief system", but it is more socially defined than personal convictions, and it entails specific behaviors, respectively. Religion is often described as a communal system for the coherence of belief focusing on a system of thought, unseen being, person, or object, that is considered to be supernatural, sacred, divine, or of the highest truth. Moral codes, practices, values, institutions, tradition, rituals, and scriptures are often traditionally associated with the core belief, and these may have some overlap with concepts in secular philosophy. Religion is also often described as a "way of life" or a life stance. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License Is there any religion on earth which consider men and women to be equal? Q. I was just wondering. Many religions claim men are superior to women. Is there any religion which states women are greater than men. At least that they are equal. Why do you think many religions consider men to be superior? Is it because all the founders of the religions happen to be men? If so its time we start our own religion. What do you think? Asked by Reality - Wed Nov 5 11:00:34 2008 - - 17 Answers - 17 Comments A. I think you are right when you say religions consider man to be superior because the founders are men themselves. But why care about what religions say. In other words what men say. We know the truth. Women gives birth to children, care for them, teach them what is right and what is wrong. Women do lots of sacrifices that men don't. Today we earn and support our families don't we. The women of the 21st century is way ahead than man. I mean how many men do we find helping women with house work where as we support the countries economy. Answered by mayumi j - Thu Nov 6 00:29:20 2008 What is the difference between religion and science? Q. Note carefully that both science and religion share a perspective in that they are deemed as a rational compendium of beliefs. Can science be deemed rational, when religion says it is irrational? Or, can religion be deemed rational when science says it is irrational? Who has the real say in discounting someone else's beliefs for the sake of their own? Asked by Omicron - Sat Jun 26 19:21:35 2010 - - 22 Answers - 0 Comments A. Religion requires faith as it has no proof of said deity or verifiability of its doctrine. Science branches out into many areas where research and study takes place to make determinations, it has physical and tangible material to work with. The 'irrationality' of science, cut the mortality rate from infection due to the discovery of antibiotics, X ray machines so the the inside of your body can be examined to determine appropriate treatment, the vast amounts of study and research by scientist have benefited us all - to dismiss it a irrational is illogical. What can religion cure? What can it give us that is new? Nothing. 2000 years - and nothing, but the insistence the we obey or suffer. And that too, without evidence to back it up.
