What rights to privacy do people have when using the Internet at home?
Q. Are there limits to their privacy rights? Do those same rights and limits exist at work?
Asked by chnk5399 - Thu Jun 21 15:02:20 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. 100% right to privacy at home with the exception to terms agreed to by simply visiting the site. Most of these policies go unnoticed most of the time. At work, absolutely NONE. You can get info on this at:

What rights do tenants have when there is water damage to their apartment?
Q. We have lived with this company for a few years, across two states...this is the 3rd complex (we moved for work and school). We are in good standing with the company, never late with rent and have a clean history of complaints. However, we have had many problems since we upgraded to this new apartment in April. There has been significant water damage to our biggest bathroom and to my daughter's bedroom walls and closet...but our personal property has not been damaged, yet! What rights do we have as tenants, and what do we have to do to ensure we get this fixed? We have called and left messages with the maintenance crew, and they have come over once to assess the damage. They believe it is from our upstairs neighbors, but they ar… [cont.]

A. You need to notify the people upstairs, your landlord, and keep records of your attempts to have this problem rectified. If the landlord doesn't have the problem fixed, you need to report them to someone. Perhaps you need to have your lawyer send a letter. The health of your child and the rest of you shouldn't be compromised. Do something about it now, like having the entire situation fixed and send the bill to the landlord. BUT make sure you do have documents to prove that you notified them and nothing satisfactory was done to fix the problem. Video tape everything and keep the film/memory stick in a safe place like a safety deposit box at your bank. Have a reliable witness go with you to the landlord to make an "in person" request… [cont.]

What rights do i have when buying a used car from a private seller?
Q. My son bought a car and the morning after he picked it up it broke down and a garage he asked said the repair will cost him more than 400. So he contacted the seller and he said he'll show it to a mechanic friend but keeps making excuses he has not got hold of him. My son wants his money back and to return the car? The garage said he can do but the seller says no. What rights does my son have?

A. In the U.K. if you buy from a private seller, the law is very clear - "Caveat Emptor". This quite literally means, 'Buyer beware'. In other words, it's up to the buyer to be 100% sure that the car is OK, before handing over the cash. Unless you can prove in court that the seller deliberately misrepresented the car (very difficult to do), then you will just have to live with it. That is the law. You are only covered by statutory rights if you buy from a dealer.

Natural Rights

Natural rights are inherent choices found by some philosophers to exist logically for each individual, whether they are protected, or infringed, by society, government, or other social interaction.

  • People are usually surprised to discover that I hate the phrase "constitutional rights." I hate the phrase because it is terribly misleading. Most of the people who say it or hear it have the impression that the Constitution "grants" them their rights. Nothing could be further from the truth. Strictly speaking it is the Bill of Rights that enumerates our rights, but none of our founding documents bestow anything on you at all [...] The government can burn the Constitution and shred the Bill of Rights, but those actions wouldn't have the slightest effect on the rights you've always had.
