Do the Roma (Gypsy) people have a "homeland" like the Jews or Armenians or other ethnic groups?
Q. Like, are the Roma people nomadic because they like that lifestyle? Or are they eventually trying to get somewhere geographically?

A. Thank you or using the proper term! *blows kiss* No, they are not trying to get anywhere geographically. Genetically, we're from the Indian subcontinent, but there is no 'promised land,' or anything like that. By and large the culture is simply nomadic. It isn't so much that they like the lifestyle, so much as settling down in one place makes it harder to keep marime law about not marrying out, and what is and is not allowed in the home, and such. settling also goes against the nature. Most often compare it to water. If Rom stay in one place, they believe the spirit and the energy goes stagnant and causes disease and problems. Also, because the culture and laws are so different it fosters persecution. There are Roma who settle down, but… [cont.]

why are many roma people in romania, bulgaria and turkey if the origin of them is in india and pakistan?
Q. the origin of roma people is in the north of india and pakistan but there are 2.000.000 of gypsies in turkey 800.000 in romania 500.000 in bulgaria why? (these countries are thenations with more roma people in the world)
Asked by ADASDASD - Fri Aug 8 02:19:21 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Because hundreds of years ago there was a gradual migration of these peoples towards the West. Just as migration of other peoples occurred in other countries eg Slavs moved from Russia and populated the Balkans; Germans and Danes migrated to England. Over the history of humankind, just about every country in the world has accommodated a mass migration of people of different nationalities.

Why do some people find it absolutely necessary to trash other people's customs? Say the Roma people...?
Q. I find the fact that some people slander other people's names and customs and then go on, all whoop-dee-doo. It is absolutely revolting! Like how some people just murder the Roma (or gypsy) way of life, by saying rude, slanderous, and spiteful things, just from a bad personal experiance, or a friend of a friend's sister's cousin's aunt's bad experiance. Ever heard of that game Telephone? How one person starts at one oend, whisper a simple phrase to someone, and it passes down the line, and how there's that ONE person who completely switches it around? Well, that's Life. Yay. I have an idea! Why don't you just politely refuse and go about your day if a Roma wants to do a job for you. And you know- not ALL of them are like that. I know! It's… [cont.]

A. Hello, Gypsies? Because they have had their own culture and identity, kept to themselves and have been free wheeling travelers and over the centuries they got stereotyped and were perceived as thieves, liars, swindlers and social misfits unable or willing to integrate into mainstream society. Sometimes there are those that do a good job in helping to live up to the stereotype hence they are all painted with the same brush. All civilized people still have their prejudices I'm afraid. A. It's very doubtful that will happen. This is a scare tactic that the Jobbik uses to convince people that the Romas will take over Hungary. They are still a minority in Hungary, but are treated terribly by many Hungarians. It is a shame, I love Hungary, and I have spent a lot of my life there, but the treatment of Romas in Hungary is a dark patch.

A. As an arsenal fan, it's pretty obvious that I don't support you in the premiere league. But in these circumstances, whenever there is an english team vs a different euro team(or any other country) I always go for the english team because they are representing here, England, and I like it when any premiere league team promote us as much as they can. Btw, that does mean if you yourself aren't a bitter rivalrist( if thats a word) than you shall be supporting Chelsea too, isn't that right?

A. They are physically lovely people, but in trips to Rome, I found them to be among the most clever thieves and pickpockets. I guess this comes from lives of desperation, but it's a little strange to see a mother begging for food, and then see her two small children run, unattended down the street and return with ice cream. Many will use their children for a ploy, teaching them early own a life of begging or stealing. What this must do to a child's self esteem!

He would eat from trash cans, sleep on friend's couches, and planned to buy himself a piece fo land and I'm not sure if he was going to try and be self sufficient or just use part time or what but he did buy that land, I think.they're okay. When they choose the lifestyle I just hope they know what they are getting into, that's all. I also loved how Irish and Scottish travelers, tramps, hobos, vagrants, and circus people all went under the same category. :)
