Q. Why didn't the ROMA (Gypsy) people ever received a state to call their own like the Jewish did after WW2?

A. The Jewish people were reclaiming their traditional territory. The Romas never had any traditional territory - they were a nomadic people and didn't want to settle in one place.

Are romanian people the same as Gypsy or Roma?
Q. What does Gypsy and Roma mean? and are they romanian?
Asked by MaryB - Sun Nov 1 15:03:32 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No, we're NOT Egyptian, and never were. That's just silly. I don't know what kind of crackerjack box research harpertara has been doing, but it's the polar opposite of correct or informed. "Gypsy" is NOT short for "Egyptian", and the word "gypsy" is actually quite derogatory. We NEVER settled in Romania. In fact we never settled at all. Actually, we really came from northern India. We're not the same as Romanians, in fact we're not even very fond of them. "Rom" is NOT a play on the word "Roam", nor is "Roma". I can't believe this person is a top contributor.
